Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) is Malaysia’s main international gateway, consisting of two terminals: KLIA1 and KLIA2 (klia2). Both terminals have designated smoking lounges after security, though you’ll need to know where to find them. This guide covers all smoking areas at KUL airport.
Smoking Lounges at KLIA Terminal 1
KLIA1 has smoking lounges in the Satellite Building, which you reach by taking the aerotrain after the security checkpoint.
Satellite Building (After Aerotrain)
There are two smoking lounges at the Mezzanine Level (Level 2) of the Satellite Building:
Near Gate C11 – South Zone, next to China Airlines Dynasty Lounge
Near Gate C30 – North Zone, next to Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge
As of August 2025, the smoking room is located behind the small Asian store on the square between Gates P and Q.
Contact Pier (Domestic)
In the domestic area of the Contact Pier, there is a smoking area at Gate B2, located beside the TWG Tea shop.
MAS Golden Lounge
The Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge in the West Zone has a smoking room inside. Lounge access is required.
Smoking Lounges at KLIA Terminal 2 (klia2)
klia2 primarily serves low-cost carriers including AirAsia. Smoking facilities are available in the Satellite Building.
Satellite Building
- Level 2, Sector 6 – Smoking lounge near Khazanah Home Decor shop and the charging station
The smoking lounges at klia2 are equipped with seating, ashtrays, and proper ventilation systems.
Note: The smoking room that was previously located after Caring Pharmacy at the Main Terminal Building is no longer available.
Premium Plaza Lounge
The Premium Plaza Lounge (next to Starbucks, one level up) has a small smoking area. Access requires lounge membership or pay-at-door.
Outdoor Smoking Areas
Outdoor smoking zones are available at the outer curbside areas on Levels 1, 3, and 5 of KLIA1, and Level 3 of klia2 (right and left section of Sector 2).
Tips for Smokers at KLIA
Take the aerotrain first – At KLIA1, smoking lounges are in the Satellite Building, not the main terminal
Know your terminal – KLIA1 and klia2 are separate buildings with different facilities
Check lounge access – Some smoking areas are inside paid lounges
Follow Malaysian law – Smoking outside designated areas can result in fines
